The Allen Morris Company, in partnership with the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, honored William A. Kerdyk, Jr. as the recipient of the 8th Annual George E. Merrick Award of Excellence™ and the Coral Gables Woman’s Club with the Merrick Legacy Award on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the University of Miami Donna E. Shalala Student Center.
William “Bill” Kerdyk, Jr. is the Vice Mayor Emeritus of the City of Coral Gables. Distinctively dubbed a “Coral Gables Man,” Bill was born in Coral Gables, graduated from Coral Gables High School, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Florida International University, and is President and CEO of Kerdyk Realty, located in The City Beautiful.
Assuming office in 1995, Bill founded the City’s PARKnership program, spearheaded the restoration of the city’s iconic landmarks, initiated the “Million Orchid Project,” secured the initial funding for the Coral Gables Trolley Program, implemented the Ponce de Leon Median Project, and introduced traffic calming measures throughout the community, to name just a few. Bill was out of the country on business and his wife Lynn accepted the award on his behalf.
The George E. Merrick Award of Excellence™ was established in 2008 to celebrate and recognize and celebrate a true visionary leader who has made a significant impact and set standards for the cultural celebration, promotion, beautification, preservation and economic growth of the City of Coral Gables. The board of judges was comprised of: W. Allen Morris, Chairman, President and CEO of The Allen Morris Company; Sarah Nesbitt Artecona, with the University of Miami; Linda Knudsen, Chair of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce; Sharon Trbovish, with the Coral Gables Garden Club; and Wayne “Chip” Withers, of Withers Worldwide Transport.

The Merrick Legacy Award was established to recognize a Legacy Organization that endures today and continues to embody the living spirit and vision of George Merrick. This award was presented to The Coral Gables Woman’s Club.
The chamber and City National Bank also honored three leaders with the 2nd Annual Merrick-in-the-Making Awards.
